Hello to everyone. My name is Mary Kate Dumont. I live in Orange Beach with my husband and two sons, ages seven and nine.
Because of attending the University of South Alabama for two years as a voice major quite some time ago (30 years), upon
enrollment last summer I had enough credits transfer to classify me as a Junior. Since classes then were on the quarter system,
many classes have to be repeated on the semester system. I am certain that a "refresher" will be of help for all of my classes and
future career needs. I am majoring in Restaurant and Hospitality Management, which I thought a good idea since I live in a resort area.
My husband is a retired Psychiatrist and disabled veteran with serious health issues. I want to increase my future employability.
Sadly, the oil spill devastated the local economy and hurt so many people. The effect will be long lasting, but I am confident that it
will bounce back in time as people will always love the beach and ocean.
I was a professional ballroom dance competitor for several years. I had a business designing and manufacturing china dinnerware.
I owned and operated a retail gift and home accessory store from 1998 to 2004 when hurricane Ivan put us out of business, but still
have an internet store, MKate's Excentricities, at mkates.com.
I look forward to participating in this class with all of you.
